If you haven’t heard of him before, let us introduce Jeff Glenn – otherwise known as ‘Chopper’ to close his friends. Jeff is a highly decorated and accomplished diver and, although a quieter figure in the industry, he really is one of the true, unsung heroes of the diving community.
Holding the esteemed titles of PADI Course Director, TecRec Instructor Trainer, and TDI Instructor Trainer to Advanced Trimix, Jeff’s expertise spans across multiple disciplines.
Additionally, he boasts certifications as a TDI Advanced Wreck Instructor, TDI Full Cave Instructor, and both JJ-CCR and SF2 CCR Instructor, further solidifying his reputation as one of the most versatile and knowledgeable instructors around.
With a trifecta of Instructor Trainer ratings from three of the largest Dive Agencies worldwide – RAID, TDI, and PADI – Jeff stands out as one of the most qualified PADI Course Directors in all of Asia.
His extensive experience and active involvement in Koh Tao’s thriving dive scene have seen him mentor countless learner divers, tech divers and instructors, all of whom have achieved a remarkable 100% success rate on their Instructor Exams. Many of Jeff’s students have also now also made a name for themselves in the dive industry. (Aron Arngrimsson as one example).
Having begun his professional journey as a PADI Divemaster in Airlee Beach, Australia, in the early 90s, Jeff has since accumulated thousands of dives globally. For the past 20 years, he has dedicated himself to professional and technical diver and instructor development, demonstrating a particular passion for technical diving.
A proud Australian hailing from Queensland’s Gold Coast, Jeff’s interests extend beyond diving. An avid surfer, photographer, and traveler, he brings a wealth of experiences to his role in the dive industry. Over his two-decade-long career, he has been fortunate to explore some of the world’s most breathtaking dive sites, including the Great Barrier Reef, the wrecks of Malta, the cenotes of Mexico, and the vibrant reef systems of Micronesia, among others.
Jeff’s love for technical diving has led him on numerous rewarding adventures, including dives to depths of sub 100m and achieving an open circuit depth record of 180m in Dahab, Egypt. Notably, he served as the deep support diver for Will Goodman’s successful CCR world record attempt to 300m in 2014.
Beyond his achievements in technical diving, Jeff’s passion for exploration has taken him to the depths of cave systems in locations like Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand, and the flooded mines of Finland and Sweden. Whether exploring the depths of a cave or navigating historical wrecks in Truk Lagoon, Jeff’s thirst for discovery remains unquenchable.
When not immersed in diver education or exploration, Jeff enjoys spending quality time with his family, playing golf with friends, or overseeing operations at his popular sports bar, Choppers Sports Bar, established in 2003 on Koh Tao. With live sports, music, and a tantalizing menu, Choppers has become a beloved hangout spot for locals, tourists and dive professionals alike.
